Cocktails with prime city views

Thirty8 bar has a splendid view of the city.

THE 360° panoramic view from Thirty8, the bar and restaurant perched on the 38th floor of the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, offers a breathtaking view of the city’s skyline.

As twilight descends, the bar is painted with a mesmerising orange hue of sunlight, setting the perfect scene for one to unwind with a cocktail.

At the opposite end of the bar is the restaurant kitchen, which serves Western, Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

The bar offers signature cocktails and all-time favourite classic cocktails.

Additionally, the menu also offers food pairings and thematic cocktails to cater to every palate.

In the Signature Creation menu, the Lychee No.38 cocktail is accompanied by a whimsical description that says, “the rebellious bartender has failed 38 times to get the recipe right.”

It is mixed with gin, Midori melon, lychee, cucumber, vanilla and egg white.

Sweet and refreshing, it is a pleasant drink to start with before enjoying a stronger, more spirit-forward concoction.

For a more colourful and citrusy drink, try the Lady in the Garden, which is mixed with gin, pineapple juice, apricot and butterfly pea tea.

It has balanced acidity with a fruity note and is colourful in its presentation.

For a creamy texture, try the White Monkey cocktail, which is a concoction of Pisco, Martini Bianco, milk and orgeat.

In the “His and Her” section of the menu, the bar has crafted two speciality drinks for gentlemen and ladies.

Named after a popular novel by Erich Segal, the Love Story cocktail is a mix of house-infused rosemary gin, pink grapefruit, peach and egg white.

The description of the cocktail also features the popular catchphrase of the novel, “Love means never having to say you’re sorry”.

For those who prefer a more spirit-forward cocktail, the Montenegroni features house-infused peeled orange gin, Amaro Montenegro, Campari and caramelised orange.

The bar also features cocktails inspired by cities around the world under the Grand City Tour section of the menu.

The Sake Sour combines Japanese sake and is a unique take on the classic Whiskey Sour cocktail, with Junmai Ginjo, sour plum and egg white foam.

For Malaysia’s own Sling, the red-coloured Kuala Lumpur edition of Thirty8 Sling is made of vodka, D.O.M Benedictine, cherry brandy, house-made hibiscus syrup as well as pineapple juice.

Visitors can also try the progressive cocktail flight, featuring four petit cocktails paired with signature bites from the Thirty8 kitchen.

It includes salted egg chicken roll, portobello confit carpaccio, Temari sushi and a chocolate tart, with each course paired with a glass of cocktail.
