Water and wastewater engineering company Salcon Bhd successfully completed its “Lighting Up Our Community 3.0” campaign in Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Relang in Gombak, Selangor.

The initiative saw 21 volunteers providing sustainable energy solutions in the form of solar lights to enhance the living conditions of the Orang Asli community through the provision of reliable electricity while reducing living costs via the renewable energy.

Through this project, Salcon installed 11 solar LED batten lights and two solar street lights in eight homes, along the main road and at the community hall, directly benefitting 49 residents, including nine children.

These solar-powered lights offer essential night illumination, enabling children to study and residents to engage in evening activities safely and productively.

Salcon volunteers carried out a thorough process involving setting up, testing and inspecting the system.

Hands-on training was conducted for residents, empowering them with the skills necessary to maintain the solar lights independently.

Salcon also provided essential food and school supplies gathered via staff donations.

Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Relang resident Intan said, “We are grateful to Salcon for bringing light into our homes.

“Now, my children can study and do their homework at night, which was quite difficult before. This initiative has really improved our daily lives,” she said.

Salcon engineering chief operating officer Jamiluddin Amini Sulaiman said, “Salcon is devoted to enhancing the quality of life for underserved communities. We believe that by delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions, we are not just meeting immediate needs but also fostering long-term development.”

The firm’s previous projects included installing solar-powered lights in Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Tunggul, Dengkil and Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Gabai and a solar-powered water filter at the community hall in Kampung Orang Asli Paya Lebar, both in Hulu Langat, Selangor.
