Selangor government’s Jalinan Mesra Rewang Sekampung programme at PPR Kampung Baru Hicom, Shah Alam, was a celebration of all things Malaysian.
The programme organised at the people’s housing project (PPR) sought to foster the spirit of mutual cooperation.
Residents of all ages participated in a series of activities designed to build community bonds and educate the younger generation about their cultural roots.
The event kicked off with a traditional cooking demonstration, where the older residents shared recipes and techniques for classic Malay dishes such as dalca and spiced fried chicken.
There was also a futsal tournament, mobile library and staircase fun walk.
The programme also featured traditional games like congkak, marbles and hopscotch.
These games, once a staple of kampung life, provided a fun and educational way to bridge generational gaps and revive pastimes that had nearly faded from memory.
There was also a bouncing castle, which was popular with the young ones.
A highlight of the event was the clean-up activity where residents came together to tidy up common areas, plant trees and beautify their surroundings.
This collaborative effort not only improved their living environment but also strengthened the community spirit.
