IT was not all about football for former stars of Liverpool and Manchester United who turned up in Malaysia for a Battle of the Reds.

Maybank Cards hosted a golf tournament for their cardmembers and the football greats. The event was by invitation only.

A total of 112 Maybank cardmembers along with eight footballers took part in the tournament at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

Former stars from The Reds were Patrick Berger, Glen Johnson, Vladimir Smicer and John Arne Riise.

The greats from the Red Devils were Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham, Keith Gillespie and Wes Brown.

Some of these legends, who have visited this part of the world before, had played our courses, including Yorke, Sheringham, Johnson and Riise.

Many among the current and former footballers also partake in golf.

The recently retired Gareth Bale of Wales, Real Madrid and Tottenham fame was at the forefront of a junior programme to promote golf across Europe.

And for those who can remember, there was a black-and-white photo of the great Liverpool manager Bob Paisley caddying for another legend and his No.7, Kenny Dalglish.

Also at the event were Maybank cards and group community financial services head B. Ravintharan K. Balakrishnan along with Maybank Group’s community financial services regional cards head of marketing Vichelle Woon.
