Selangor government gifts four micromobility vehicles worth over RM55,000 to beef up airport security
THE state government, through Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI), gifted four two-wheel transporters for policemen on duty at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari handed the micromobility vehicles worth over RM55,000 to state police in an event at KLIA Terminal 1.
He said KLIA Terminal 1 and 2 would receive two units each.
“Both terminals get an average of 250,000 people, with 251 flights at the airports daily.
“The state decided and worked on procuring the micromobility vehicles before Ramadan.
“It is high time to increase airport security.
“The two-wheelers will increase security personnel’s response time, as well as their ability to cover a wider area faster during emergencies,” he said.
Also present was Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam.
Amirudin said the usage of micromobility vehicles at airports was not new.
“In the past couple of years, I have noticed them being used by airport security personnel in other countries.
“Some of the requirements we looked into when acquiring the vehicles include ensuring that they can be used for at least 12 hours on a full charge.
“Such vehicles are designed to be faster than being on foot. I believe the maximum speed is about 30km per hour.
“If there are requests for more units at the airport in future, we will try our best to fulfil them.
“During the Covid-19 movement restrictions, Selangor government spent over RM2mil to buy ebikes for the General Operations Force for Op Benteng to patrol our borders,” he said.
There are 147 security personnel stationed at both KLIA terminals daily.
