CHEERS echoed through the air as students crossed the finishing line at the end of a cross-country championship and fun walk event at SMK Agama Kuala Lumpur.

The school celebrated the opening of its new sports field alongside the cross-country run and fun walk.

The event, which was made possible through a funding initiative by Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, brought together students, teachers and local officials at the school field.

The field was opened in a special ceremony by Yeoh, who emphasised the importance of providing top-notch sports facilities for student development.

Yeoh, who is Youth and Sports Minister, said physical activity was important in youth development and facilities like this were vital for nurturing well-rounded individuals who would contribute positively to society.

“I know it’s a challenge for many schools to upgrade their facilities, that’s why MPs try to help provide them to schools.

“I am glad to see the positive impact of this new field and hope it will help to develop talent and promote sportsmanship among the students here,” Yeoh said.

She added that it was important to invest in education and sports infrastructure to empower the next generation.

SMK Agama Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) chairman Azizul Malik Muhammad Hussain Malim said Yeoh contributed a total of RM110,900 for the school field renovation.

The project began last August and was completed in November 2023.

Azizul added that the field was more than just a recreational space, it’s a platform for fostering teamwork, sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle among students.

SMK Agama, which was opened in 1993, currently has an enrolment of 694 pupils with 127 teachers.

“We are thankful to Yeoh for responding to our application and ensuring that our students have their school field,” Azizul said.
