Upgrades needed for main market, food courts in Ipoh


A TRADERS’ association in Perak is urging local authorities to upgrade the main wet market and hawker centres in Ipoh.

Perak Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Association president Zahari Abd Murad said Ipoh Central Market needed upgrading, especially the ground area that housed fruit traders as well as food courts in Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar and Tasek.

The association has more than 10,000 members statewide, including 1,000 who are actively trading in Kinta district.

Zahari suggested that trader association representatives be invited to give their views on the construction or upgrades of such facilities.

“We assist members to obtain grants or loans from agencies like Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (Tekun), as well as banks,” he told Bernama.

The association also held engagement sessions with government agencies and financial institutions to ensure their members were kept informed, Zahari said.
