Kulai district seeking funds to build mosque

Fizwan says Kulai district is seeking funds to build a district mosque.

KULAI District Office is seeking funds to build a mosque to cater to locals.

According to district officer Fizwan Mohd Rashidi, Kulai did not have its own mosque to host official religious events.

He said he had raised the matter and presented a proposal to Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi recently.

“A project worth RM30mil was proposed for the construction of a district mosque that could fit a congregation of up to 5,000.

“We have identified a 7.6ha land in Bandar Putra Kulai for the project and are now in the process of seeking funds so that construction can begin,” he said.

Fizwan said he had asked Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, who is also Kulai MP, for assistance as the construction cost had to be shared by both Johor and Federal governments.

He said it was the norm that 50% of the cost would be borne by the Federal Government while the balance was contributed by the state government and local communities.

“We hope the Federal Government will give its consideration to the project,” said Fizwan.

He also said that Teo had been disbursing financial assistance to mosques and surau in the district since 2019.

“She recently allocated RM87,000 to 29 mosques and 54 surau in Kulai this year.”

Meanwhile, Teo said she would assist in the district mosque project.

“I will work with the district officer to ensure that the project is given attention by the Federal Government for it to materialise,” she said.
