Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) hosted B40 families, orphans and council staff in an iftar gathering.
Over 1,000 people attended the event in front of MBPJ’s headquarters in Jalan Yong Shook Lin.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the event was their way of supporting the less fortunate.
He handed out cash aid to 60 families and 145 orphans from the local community at the event.
“MBPJ initiated this event to honour the dedication of its workforce, fostering increased devotion while also bolstering ties between the city council and the local community.
“The programme was also to bring joy to the less fortunate and help them celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he said.
The contributions to the orphans included RM200 in cash along with school essentials such as bags, stationery and festive treats.
Meanwhile, the B40 families who were identified via the eKasih system, received RM300 each and festive biscuits.
Mohamad Zahri also handed out certificates of appreciation to the city council’s strategic partners including Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar Sdn Bhd along with the Le Meridien Hotel, One World Hotel and Avante Hotel for their contribution of 800 food parcels for the programme.
