Iskandar Puteri opens applications for low-carbon community grants

With grant funds in 2023, Impian Utara 6B residents’ committee held gardening activities for children.

ISKANDAR Puteri City Council (MBIP) will be giving out RM500,000 in grants to fund green projects this year.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad said the Low-Carbon Community Grant programme, now in its fourth year, would offer each approved applicant up to RM50,000 for their proposed activities.

“The grant programme is a platform for the council to educate, motivate and brainstorm with the public on ways to better implement low-carbon projects in the city.

“Grant applications are open until May 2 for those involved in projects focusing on green infrastructure, sustainable waste management, farming and food security, environmental conservation as well as safe neighbourhoods,” Mohd Haffiz said.

To ensure that approved programmes would achieve long-term benefits, MBIP and its partners would guide recipients through consultancy and brainstorming sessions, he added.

The mayor encouraged individuals, communities, management committees of houses of worship, residents’ committees, joint management bodies, non-governmental organisations and higher education institutions to apply for the grants, for an opportunity to make a difference.

He said there were 24 recipients in last year’s programme.

Started in 2021, the grant has so far awarded more than RM1mil to about 70 recipients.

Mohd Haffiz said the grant programme was offered in partnership with Iskandar Regional Development Authority, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, state Education Department and SWM Environment Sdn Bhd.
