RUBBISH collectors in Selangor have been warned against asking for duit raya when on duty, and those found guilty will have their employment terminated with immediate effect.
Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir said the directive was issued recently and that strict action would be taken against anyone found not complying. He said he had received complaints from the public in past years of workers asking for payment before collecting rubbish.
“If they (the workers) are not paid, they will simply leave and refuse to collect the rubbish.
“This is not supposed to be the case, as they are already paid a salary to do their job,” he said during a press briefing on Friday (April 5) at KDEB headquarters in Shah Alam, Selangor.
KDEB currently employs some 3,500 rubbish collectors.
At the briefing, Ramli said Selangor was expected to see a 13% increase in rubbish collection during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri season.
He noted that the increase was likely due to the increased number of social functions to be organised in conjunction with the festivity.
