Retreat a reminder for women to prioritise physical, mental wellbeing

SUNWAY Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) held an all-women retreat called “The Glow Retreat: Unwind and Rejuvenate” at a Kuala Lumpur hotel in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

The retreat welcomed 50 participants, including opinion leaders, media workers and the medical centre’s patients.

SMCV chief executive officer Susan Cheow said the retreat was to celebrate women from different walks of life.

“Through this retreat, we would like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of these hardworking women who wear multiple hats and contribute to society,” she said.

The retreat held wind-down activities such as meditation and sound healing session which was conducted by Jojo Struys, the retreat’s emcee and OhanaJo Studio founder.

The retreat also organised workshops by skincare brand Claire Organics.

Focusing on women’s well-being, SMCV’s consultant obstetrician, gynaecologist and fertility specialist Dr Farah Leong Rahman led sessions emphasising self-care for women.

Dr Leong said women often led busy lives that they might overlook the importance of their own health, both physically and mentally.

“However, through retreats and activities like this, we are able to gather remarkable women together to educate them on prioritising their wellbeing,” she said.

Alongside fellow obstetrician-gynaecologist Dr Wong Yen Shi, Dr Leong also highlighted neglected or taboo topics such as vaginal health.

Meanwhile, SMCV’s psychiatrist Dr Ryan Tee Chun Keat called to attention the importance of carving out alone time.

Additionally, dermatologist Dr Irene Lee Chew Kek shed light on the effects of hormones on skin health.

Further enhancing the experience, SMCV also provided participants the chance to explore colour palettes that complemented them in a workshop conducted by Style by OSH.

Japanese skincare brand Elixir then conducted a session on skin health.

Participants were also surprised with vouchers for a body massage at UR SPA by The RuMa Hotel and Residences, enabling them to indulge in well-deserved “me time”.

The retreat also marked the launch of SMCV’s “Empowering Women Campaign,” a two-month long campaign featuring initiatives such as promotions on women’s health screening packages and the rollout of the “HealthyHER” video series.

In this series, host Struys and SMCV consultants share their insights into how women can better care for their well-being.
