TWELVE traders operating at Saujana Puchong Ramadan bazaar in Jalan SP3, Puchong, were given three days to remove their tents and tables after they were found flouting local council guidelines.
Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) disallows traders from leaving these items overnight.
Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said this was because these bazaars were held on public roads.
He said the items would be seized if the traders did not comply.
Mohd Fauzi reminded all Ramadan bazaar traders to adhere to city council guidelines.
These included wearing an apron, face mask, getting TY2 typhoid shot, providing cashless or ewallet payment options as well as not using polystyrene packaging, straw and staples in food packaging.
He spoke to the press after visiting the Ramadan bazaar at Jalan USJ4/5, Subang Jaya, with Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng.
Separately, Mohd Fauzi along with PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd Strategy and Sustainability general manager Harlina Pikri also launched a used cooking oil recycling campaign.
It will be carried out on Saturdays, from 5pm to 7pm, at four Ramadan bazaar locations – USJ4, Bandar Kinrara 5, Taman Puchong Prima and Taman Puncak Jalil.
The campaign will pay RM3 for every 1kg of used cooking oil collected.
As of March 18, 110kg of used cooking oil had been collected from the four bazaars.
Mohd Fauzi added that PETRONAS would be offering two free cooking gas tank exchanges per trader at the four bazaars.
In addition, MBSJ will provide drums to collect used cooking oil at seven other Ramadan bazaar locations.
These bins will be managed by its Environmental Management Department.
MBSJ will also be continuing its collaboration with social enterprise What A Waste (WAW) to channel unsold food rescued from six Ramadan bazaars.
According to WAW, 602kg of surplus unsold food valued at about RM14,450 was collected within the first five days of Ramadan.
