IN order to capitalise on current market trends to elevate export prospects for Malaysia’s healthcare sector, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) is collaborating with the South-East Asian Healthcare and Pharma Show (SEACare 2024).

The event will take place from April 17 to 19 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

SEACare 2024 presented an opportunity for the local healthcare sector players to enhance brand recognition and promote their products and services to the South-East Asian market.

The event also provided a platform for companies to showcase their commitment to innovation, quality and sustainability elements in enhancing their reputation and competitive edge in the region.

Matrade’s collaboration with SEACare 2024 included the International Sourcing Programme (INSP), crafted to bridge local companies with international buyers.

Capitalising on its network of 49 overseas offices, Matrade is aiming to facilitate meetings with about 20 international buyers from the healthcare sector and local suppliers.

This initiative is aimed at enhancing networking opportunities, cultivating strong business relationships and spurring collaboration and innovation within the industry.

Last year, Malaysia’s export of medical devices reached RM28.1bil, with medical instruments and consumables seeing steady growth.

The New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) identified medical devices and pharmaceuticals as priority sectors and part of the key areas for development.

Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said Malaysia’s healthcare sector was a vital lifeline connecting communities and driving the nation’s economy.

“With state-of-the-art medical device manufacturing facilities and accessible, high-quality pharmaceutical products, Malaysia has emerged as a regional healthcare hub.

“The country’s infrastructure, coupled with specialised medical treatments and affordable fees, makes Malaysia an attractive destination for medical tourism.”

Matrade champions digitalisation, sustainability practices and halal certification to enhance global acceptance of Malaysian products and services.

Its dedication to advancing export opportunities for Malaysia’s healthcare sector across South-East Asia is reflected in a range of activities including impactful trade missions, business-matching sessions and insightful industry seminars.

Matrade fosters strategic partnerships with industry leaders, facilitating targeted promotional campaigns, active participation in pivotal industry events, and fostering networking opportunities.

“Through these measures, the national trade promotion agency aims to amplify the visibility and strengthen the competitiveness of Malaysia’s healthcare industry throughout the region,” he said.

Local healthcare players are encouraged to seize the opportunity presented by SEACare 2024 to showcase their offerings.

Additionally, industry leaders and stakeholders are invited to stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in medical devices and pharmaceuticals through comprehensive range of conferences and seminars offered as part of the event.
