A NEW book titled Sarawak Women in Innovation and Technology will be launched in conjunction with the 2024 state-level Women’s Day Celebration.

Sarawak Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the celebration would be held on May 4 at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor’s Hall, Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) in Sibu.

“Right now, we are in the editing process, and on May 4, the book will be launched by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” said Fatimah at a media conference after chairing the main committee meeting on the state’s 2024 Women’s Day celebration.

She told reporters that the book title was the theme of this year’s Women’s Day celebration.

She also announced that this would be the first time the event would be held outside Kuching.

“We want to give Sibu the opportunity to hold this kind of celebration, and are expecting between 800 and 1,000 people to attend,” said the Dalat assemblyman.

This event, said Fatimah, would celebrate the contribution of Sarawak women in the development of families, the state and the country.

The event will present six awards, namely the Datuk Patinggi Laila Taib Award and the Sarawak Premier Awards for Women’s Leadership, Women’s Entrepreneurship, Women Social Activist, Special Achievement, and Outstanding NGO.

“A showcase of services provided by government agencies and departments will also be held at the event premises, to provide information to the public,” Fatimah added.
