A GLOBAL tapestry of art awaits visitors to Wisma Kebudayaan SGM, Kuala Lumpur, where the works of 90 artists from 19 countries are on display until mid-April.

The diverse creations are part of the “Artistic Coexistence and Prosperity” exhibition.

It is the first to be held in Malaysia by the International Association of Creative Arts (IACA), which is a Netherlands-based group of academics and artists who use the arts in healthcare.

With help from Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM), which is a Malaysian Buddhist organisation promoting peace, the IACA has assembled works that reflect cultural diversity, artistic innovation and global teamwork.

Curator Dr Ding Yu Ming, in a media statement, said art in today’s era of rapid development no longer existed in a vacuum.

“Art can be a bridge to connect people from different cultures and backgrounds, stimulating creativity,” he added.

The works comprise those commissioned from renowned artists or selected from existing works of participating artists.

“Overall, the show aims to foster dialogue among the arts and other sectors.”

Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to attend educational programmes that include an art conference, workshops and guided tour.

The “Artistic Coexistence and Prosperity” event is taking place at Soka Exhibition Hall (ground floor) in Wisma Kebudayaan SGM until April 14.

Gallery opening hours are from 11am to 5pm (closed on Mondays). Admission is free.
