With about 800 people visiting Masjid At-Taqwa in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, daily for break of fast on the first two days of Ramadan, it was no surprise that the mosque quickly ran out of food.

However, the mosque soon received a fresh injection of funds, thanks to an allocation from the Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh’s office.

As one of 10 mosques in the Segambut constituency, Masjid At-Taqwa received RM5,000 during a mock cheque presentation ceremony held at its premises.

In total, the mosques and 42 surau in Segambut received RM134,000 for Ramadan.

“The 10 mosques received RM5,000 each and the 42 surau received RM2,000 each.

“I hope this helps with the mosque’s expenses, especially during Ramadan.

“On a different matter, I have also always allocated money to schools, including agama schools in my constituency,” said Yeoh, after the cheque presentation to mosque and surau representatives.

Each representative also received a box of dates from Yeoh’s office.

Yeoh also explained that her allocation to different types of schools and places of worship ensured that everyone’s needs were met and that unity prevailed.

Masjid At-Taqwa chairman Datuk Mohd Fadzli Yusof said the busy mosque had been around for over 30 years.

“Our budget is about RM5mil yearly and for buka puasa alone, we allocated RM600,000,” he said, adding that the breaking of fast sessions at the mosque also hosted families with young children.

“We are glad our MP chose our mosque for this event,” said Fadzli.
