Sarawak Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Ministry is providing a one-off cash grant of RM500 under Bantuan Ketua Isi Rumah Wanita Sarawak (KIRWaS).
The assistance, said its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, could serve as additional business capital for single mothers and those from the B40 group who often faced challenges in obtaining grants because of stringent conditions such as the requirement for a licence and dedicated premises.
She was speaking at the launch of Sarawak Women’s Career Tour in Sibu.
“We are assisting women who need supplementary income to cope with the rising cost of living.
“Some of the women are breadwinners, as their spouses are unable to work, while others are single mothers,” she said.
A total of 43 women received the grant at the function.
Another grant, the Sarawak Women’s Empowerment Capital Grants, saw 143 women receiving a total of RM276,158.
“This grant is for women who have started their own business,” Fatimah said.
