Dr Zaliha open to call for greater transparency from KL MPs

MINISTER in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa expressed willingness to consider the call for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to disclose applications for development orders (DOs).

This move aimed to allow stakeholders to provide input and ensure transparency.

"We will listen to their concerns, but sometimes these matters are not straightforward and may involve legal complexities.

"I plan to convene a special session in April called the Majlis Menteri Wilayah which I believe will provide an excellent platform for MPs to discuss the issue and give feedback," she said.

Dr Zaliha said she preferred that stakeholders engage with their MPs, who can then relay their concerns to her.

When asked about the fairness of the request to review DOs before granting approval, Dr Zaliha said: "If the request is merely superficial, it may seem unfair, but if we delve deeper and encounter legal complexities, it becomes less straightforward.

"Nevertheless, I am open to discussing this with them."

Dr Zaliha was responding to a StarMetro report quoting Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan, who had requested access to DOs before approval.

Zahir mentioned that the matter had been raised during a recent meeting between MPs and DBKL officials.

He expressed concern that by the time DOs were issued, there was limited scope for intervention.

Applications for DOs undergo review and approval by DBKL's one-stop planning committee chaired by the mayor.

Once approved, cancellation becomes challenging and could result in substantial penalties for DBKL.
