YOUTH and community impact will be the focus of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kuching this year.

Newly elected president Jervis Jong said a youth empowerment seminar and community service initiative would be two key projects for JCI Kuching.

He said the seminar, called “Youth with a Purpose”, aimed to inspire young people to cultivate a sense of purpose, navigate life’s challenges with a growth mindset and achieve success.

“This project aims to impact and inspire the youth of Sarawak, helping them find their purpose in life and contribute to society,” he said at JCI Kuching’s 69th installation and awards ceremony in early March.

Jong also said JCI Kuching planned to host “SDG Day”, collaborating with local non- governmental organisations (NGOs) to provide food and groceries to families in need.

In addition, this initiative will include awareness activities on recycling and reducing plastic usage in primary schools.

“These projects will be carried out throughout 2024 and we look forward to collaborating with local authorities, government agencies, media and community leaders to achieve our goals.

“Through these activities, we hope to influence the community and inspire others to reach their full potential,” he said.

Jong took over from immediate past president Bivi Ling during the ceremony which was attended by state Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu as guest of honour.

As the new president, Jong emphasised the importance of unity and introduced “Reignite Together” as JCI Kuching’s theme for this year.

“When we unite, we can be a tremendous force for positive community impact.

“Let’s invest in ourselves and become better leaders to inspire greatness through various activities and projects,” he said.
