Selangor signs MOU with TNB on sustainable energy project collaboration

SELANGOR is set to embark on collaborative efforts to explore business opportunities and development projects in renewable energy, in hopes to enhance the state’s energy security.

A new memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the state government’s subsidiary Worldwide Holdings Berhad.

The MOU, among others, aimed to accelerate the collaboration on and implementation of renewable and sustainable energy projects in Selangor.

These included projects on large-scale solar energy, battery energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and energy efficiency.

The parties involved, in a joint statement on Tuesday (March 5), said these efforts were part of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

“The strategic partnership between TNB and Selangor government is expected to generate 3,000MW energy from renewable sources by 2040.

“This is inclusive of the 500MW from the large-scale centralised solar project which will involve TNB’s cooperation with small and medium enterprises, as well as state agencies,” it said.

The statement added that these efforts were in line with the country’s vision of net zero emissions by 2050.

The matter was announced at an event at TNB headquarters in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, attended by Selangor Mentri Besar and Worldwide Holdings Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Energy Transition and Public Utilities Minister.

Other guests of honour were TNB chief executive officer and president Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan and Worldwide Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria.
