SOME 140 land owners in Nibong Tada, Sibu have received compensation amounting to RM1.47mil.

Their land had been acquired by the government for Rural Water Supply Project (BALB).

“There are 140 land owners involved but we are giving out 195 compensation cheques totalling RM1.47mil,” said state Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh at the cheque handover ceremony.

At the event, 61 longhouse chiefs also received Native Customary Rights (NCR) titles under Section 6 of the State Land Code, involving Block D Maong/Kelimut, Machan with an area of 3,673ha.

Len Talif said from 2010 to December 31, 2023, Sarawak Land and Survey Department had surveyed 1,130,015ha of NCR land throughout the state.

He said the government would continue the New NCR Land Measurement Programme as long as it was needed.

“No charges are imposed for the survey, as long as claimants can prove the validity of their claim to NCR land.

“The government will issue land titles under Section 18 of the State Land Code, which are not subject to land tax, exempted from premiums and with a perpetual tenure,” he added.
