Fruitful meeting

Singapore High Commissioner Vanu Gopala Menon (left) paying a courtesy call on Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at his office in Komtar, George Town.

During the meeting, Chow and Vanu discussed investments in Penang, the progress of the Silicon Island project and potential collaborations between the state and Singapore.

Chow was also quoted by Buletin Mutiara as speaking about several water supply interruptions in the state, and highlighted the ongoing Penang-Perak water deal, which the Penang Water Supply Corporation has been pursuing to tap as a second major raw water resource.

For now, about 80% of Penang’s raw water comes from Sungai Muda, Kedah, and Chow said there is a need to reduce such heavy dependence on a single source.
