FORTUNE came early for about 60 needy Petaling Jaya residents who received RM300 in cash.

The event, organised by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), specifically targeted B40 families earning below RM2,000, single mothers, senior citizens, large families as well as those with disabled children.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the recipients were selected through the eKasih portal.

“The list of recipients in Petaling Jaya was obtained from the latest eKasih database taken from Implementation Coordination Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department.

“Those from the Chinese community were selected for the event as it is in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

“A similar process applies for other festive seasons.

“Once the recipients were chosen, the secretariat made calls to their registered numbers as well as informed them through WhatsApp to attend the event,” Mohamad Zahri said after handing out the cash aid.

“I hope the money is able to relieve the burden of these families,” he added.
