Kuantan school puts on Lunar New Year showcase


Among the performances at the celebration was a 24 festive drum showcase.

SMK Air Putih in Kuantan hosted a grand Chinese New Year celebration, to the delight of students, teachers and staff.

Throughout the school day, they enjoyed a lion dance, 24 festive drum and mask-changing performances.

There were also multicultural dance, wushu and traditional fashion show, among others.

Principal Lai Yook Leng said the celebration was an opportunity for students of all races to learn about Chinese culture.

“This will not only allow them to experience the atmosphere of a Chinese festival but also let them know more about the culture.

“It is also aimed at forming a familial bond in the school and creating mutual respect among the different cultures,” she said.

The celebration was launched by Pahang Education Department Chinese language learning sector assistant director Chan Wei Chi.

Also present were state consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman Sim Chon Siang as well as Semambu assemblyman Chan Chun Kuang.

Wei Chi said the event by the school allowed everyone to feel and enjoy the charm of Chinese traditional culture and Lunar New Year blessings.

The celebration ended with ang pow and mandarin oranges being handed out.
