Residents’ wishlist for newly assigned zone councillors in PJ

Petaling Jaya residents hope Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ)councillors will get down to business in their respective zones.

Section 6 Rukun Tetangga chairman Rajesh Mansukhlal was happy Bryan Ng had been reappointed to Zone 13 as he could follow up on issues that had already been highlighted.

“He managed to address about 90% of the problems that don’t require a big budget to resolve.

“However, we still have problems with the drainage.

“MBPJ should not just award tenders based on the lowest price as this will have a ripple effect on the quality of work.

“If the budget for a project is unrealistic, the contractor will not be able to deliver a good job,” said Rajesh adding that MBPJ should monitor the work performances.

“If the contractors had done a good job, we would not be complaining,” he added.

Zone 13 covers sections 6, 7, 9 and 52.

On Feb 1, StarMetro reported MBPJ had released the list of zones and councillors in charge of them for the 2024/2025 term on its website.

However, three areas namely zones 15, 21 and 24, were still listed as vacant, with no councillors assigned to them yet.

Friends of Taman Aman (Fota) chairman Thayakugan Rajendram was glad councillor Nalina Nair had been reappointed to Zone 19 which encompasses sections 20, 21 and 22.

“Our issues mostly concern Taman Aman Park.

“Before Covid-19, we used to meet MBPJ department heads with the help of the area councillor to exchange views. We hope this will be continued,” he said.

Mutiara Damansara resident Dr Adrian Wong said the way trees were pruned needed improvement.

“Usually, only the lower part is pruned. The higher branches grow bigger, break and fall on the ground during heavy rain.

“During a recent downpour, one resident was nearly crushed.

“We do not want trees chopped downed but pruned from the top,” said Wong.

He also questioned why a badminton court in the neighbourhood was converted into a parking bay.

Section 5 Residents Association acting president Ben Thompson said the councillors should maintain a two-way dialogue.

“Councillors should advocate for proper use of services, ensure different voices are heard, as well as provide funding and support for community activities.

“For example, our RA needs funds to clear the area of illegal banners and to host events.”

A parent from a school in Kota Damansara, Muhammad Nazreen Zainudin said traffic had worsened along Persiaran Mahogani and Persiaran Surian.

He said parents were forced to park along Jalan Merbah 10/1 if there was a school function.

“I worry that the road will be blocked, leaving us stuck.”

Kota Damansara Community Forest vice-president Dr Miswan Muiz Mahyudin said MBPJ should provide better facilities.

“The entrance to the forest is in Section 10, Kota Damansara, but we suggest it be moved to Section 9 where there are parking bays. The current entrance is narrow and there is a school there.

“A condominium is also being built, so we anticipate more traffic,” said Dr Miswan.
