SIBU town in Sarawak will be better served if the remaining 142 community leader posts are filled soon.
Sibu District Officer Khalid Andong said the town was entitled to 413 community leaders but 142 posts had not been filled.
“I hope we can appoint community leaders as quickly as possible so that we can better manage and resolve people’s issues,” he said during the ceremony to appoint Paing Tawi as the Iban Pemanca of Dudong.
In response, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said at the function that an application aimed at increasing the number of community leaders for the Kampung Sentosa area had been submitted to Sibu District Office and the State Secretary’s Office.
He said the Kampung Sentosa area currently had only one Malay community leader and one Chinese Kapitan, which were insufficient considering the size of the area.
“The area is actually huge and divided into two phases.
“Currently, we only have one Iban village chief.
“Therefore, I propose the addition of two Iban Penghulus to enhance services. We also need two Malay Penghulus for the area,” he added.
The appointment letter was handed over to Paing by Khalid and was witnessed by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
