Pahang has applied for over RM700mil from Federal Government to repair and maintain roads this year.

State public works, transport and health committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff hoped the allocation would be approved to promptly tackle damaged roads in Pahang for road users’ benefit and safety.

“Every year, we apply for allocations and sometimes we only receive half of what is requested.

“When the rainy season comes, we see more road problems.

“The roads also need maintenance to ensure they are in good condition,” he said at a press conference in Kuantan, as reported by Bernama.

Separately, Mohammad Fakhruddin said the Bailey bridge at KM73 Section 102 of Kuantan-Segamat Highway in Pekan had reached 80% completion and was expected to be opened soon, depending on weather conditions.

He said the sinkhole that appeared in the area last week, behind the quarters of SK Bandar 2 Paloh Hinai, was believed to be a result of underground water movement.

He said the Public Works Department would submit a report on the repair method and hand over cost estimates to Education Ministry and the Pahang Education Department.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Fakhruddin said the Works Ministry had received approval to replace the collapsed culvert on Jalan Perwira Jaya-Selancar, Rompin, with a concrete bridge.

“This project is in the process of brief and scope reviews, to be followed by appointment of a land surveyor and soil investigation,” he said.

He added that the RM15.9mil project was expected to enter the tender process at the end of 2024, with construction slated to begin in 2025.
