Poor hygiene conditions in Pekeliling driving people away

THE recent raid at Jalan Silang in Kuala Lumpur has attracted lots of controversy.

However, generally speaking, this is welcome news among Malaysians and I would like to alert the authorities to pay attention to the Pekeliling area in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur.

Titiwangsa is planned to be the next big thing.

There are LRT, MRT and monorail stations as well as Go KL bus station located all within walking distance of several apartments here and there are several other high-rise projects on its way.

It is clear that there are plans to create a high density area with good public transport connectivity in Titiwangsa to cater to the needs of the population.

However, that is not what’s happening right now.

Many of the apartments are half empty. People do not want to live here.

There are too many foreign workers living here and they litter.

Rubbish is everywhere and the area is extremely dirty.

As a result, the rat population is out of control with large rodents running all over the place, including in restaurants.

This is dangerous because rats can be the cause of many serious diseases.

There are also quite a number of homeless people here.

Some are drug addicts and act aggressively.

If they are addicts or have mental health problems, we need to help them and send them to a rehab centre or hospital.

We cannot let them continue living like this, as they might eventually put other people’s lives in danger.

If the government wants to make Titiwangsa a densely populated area, it needs to make this place liveable.

Currently, it is dirty and very dangerous.

It is also highly embarrassing because many tourists use apartments for short-term stays because of the easy access to public transport.

I urge Titiwangsa representative Johari Abdul Ghani to come visit and do something to improve the conditions here.
