Cars ‘rescued’ from Puchong landslide site

Contractors demolishing walls to create an access road for the cars to be driven out of the landslide site in Taman Wawasan, Puchong.

Eight cars have been removed from the homes of Taman Wawasan residents in Puchong, Selangor, who were evacuated to safety following a landslide last month.

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) councillor Lee Jen Uyin told StarMetro that contractors had demolished the porch walls of the affected houses to facilitate an access path for the cars to be driven out of the landslide site.

She added that the walls appeared to have cracks.

It was reported in StarMetro on Dec 21 last year that the affected residents were concerned for their cars parked in their compounds and wanted to know the repair completion timeline.

Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, who confirmed in his social media post that the cars were removed, said 775 sheet piles were installed to stabilise the slope there.

In the same post, he also said that Taman Wawasan lake was part of the city council’s initiative to increase rainwater storage capacity.

As such, water was being pumped out gradually over the last few days.

“This is a temporary measure until the reconstruction of the monsoon drain, which collapsed during the landslide, is completed,” said Ng.

In a statement, MBSJ said that under phase one of repair works, sheet pile installation had reached 100% completion while monsoon drain repairs, which were only 9.3% completed, were ongoing.

“Work will continue according to a schedule.

“Phase two, which involves permanent stabilisation, including the reconstruction of main drains and road structures, is estimated to take another 30 weeks from the completion of phase one.”

MBSJ said it would also temporarily relocate three affected families to Permata Sari Apartments nearby.

A landslide victim, known only as Dev, said residents had a meeting with MBSJ on Jan 8 to find out the work progress.

“We will only be moving into the new location on Jan 15.

“MBSJ has informed us that the project will be completed seven months from now,” he added.
