MORE than RM1mil has been allocated by Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) for its tree-planting project this year.
Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said the state government had allocated RM4mil for all local councils under Greater Johor Baru to conduct tree-planting projects.
“We expect to get RM1mil from the allocation to be used to expand green areas in the city,” he said when contacted.
MBJB will also continue its low-carbon society plan by introducing an 18.5km bicycle lane in Bandar Dato’ Onn next year.
“We want to encourage more people to use bicycles as a mode of transportation to get to nearby locations, other than for recreation purposes,” he added.
Also under the Greater Johor Baru Agenda is the Sungai Skudai Special Area Plan (RKK), which involves MBJB, Iskandar Puteri City Council and Kulai Municipal Council.
“RM2mil has been allocated to build the Sungai Skudai Great Trail, which will involve the development of a bicycle and pedestrian track.
“Another RM2.3mil has been allocated for waste management in untaxed areas, besides more frequent surveillance to monitor illegal dumping into the river,” he added.
Pasir Gudang mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said RM20mil has been allocated to develop a crocodile sanctuary in Kong Kong.
“All the reptiles at Pasir Gudang Estuarine Crocodile Sanctuary in Tanjung Langsat will be moved to the new place once it is completed.”
He shared that the city council had also agreed to increase the annual allocation for all councillors from RM36,000 to RM50,000 so they can conduct more community programmes.
“This includes the RM1,000 monthly allocation for ‘Gerobok Rezeki’, which is our food aid programme,” said Asman Shah.
He said the programme was first introduced during the movement control order.
“We will also be conducting a rejuvenation programme for all 292 kebayan (public food courts) in phases.
“This will include moving petty traders from the current nine tapak penjaja locations to kebayan.
“But to do this, we need the help of councillors in all 24 zones to identify the best kebayan to relocate them to as we do not want their business to go under after they move,” he added.
