Kuala Lumpur chapter of Penang Forward Sports Club successfully staged a Christmas run at Padang Merbok in the heart of the capital.

The event on Dec 25 served as an opportunity for members from various backgrounds to come together, fostering a spirit of inclusion and diversity on Christmas Day.

“Our team comprises members from three major ethnic groups and reflects the richness of our community,” said Penang Forward Sports Club Kuala Lumpur team captain Sebastian Chin.

“Beyond the run, the gathering aims to promote meaningful connections, mutual understanding and collaboration among individuals of different backgrounds.

“Despite the small size of our team, we welcome the strength that comes from our diversity, regularly training together, offering mutual encouragement and supporting one another.

“We call on our members to actively embrace principles of inclusion and diversity within the running community, collaboratively fostering a dynamic and respectful milieu,” said Chin.

Fostering camaraderie in the most typical Malaysian way, the team of 40-strong members opted for an unconventional post-run Christmas breakfast at a local mamak restaurant where the competitive spirit at one particular table spilled over to a side event featuring a winner-takes-it-all prawn fight.

Since its inception, members of the KL chapter have achieved podium places in multiple marathons across the country.

They have been particularly dominant in the veterans’ category across distances spanning 10km, 21km and 42km.

The team looked forward to welcoming 2024 with open hearts and more gruelling training sessions, said Chin.
