THE public is reminded to be careful this festive season following the increase in number of Covid-19 cases.

Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said people should be vigilant and always maintain personal hygiene.

“We hope Covid-19 does not get worse this festive season,” he said.

“Practise personal hygiene by washing your hands regularly, and take care of your health.

“If you have symptoms like cough or cold, isolate yourself from the rest of the community first,” he said after handing over Christmas gifts to Melanau and Christian communities in Kampung Abang Barieng, Sibu.

He said there was no harm in the community practising safety measures to avoid spreading the virus.

Dr Annuar added that people who intended to return to their villages or to any destination during this festive season should be careful on the road.

“Drive safely and arrive safely at your destination,” said the Nangka assemblyman.

Meanwhile, on the donation programme, Annuar said it was an initiative of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Kampung Abang Barieng branch to deliver Christmas greetings to the Christian villagers.

He said this was a good gesture for people of all races and religions to carry out during festive seasons.

“Don’t forget your Christian friends at this time of the year.

“We went to several houses in Kampung Abang Barieng to wish them a ‘Merry Christmas’, while handing out donations in the form of cakes and soft drinks. I would like to say a big thank you to the branch for organising the initiative every year.

“I hope such programmes can continue so we can cultivate openness like this for the sake of unity.” — By ANDY CHUA
