FOLKS in Selangor are taking advantage of the year-end sales by stores and shopping malls to snap up goods for festive celebrations.
Emmanuel Das, 50, brought his family to IPC Shopping Centre in Mutiara Damansara to buy clothes for the yuletide season.
“Besides Christmas, I am also buying some new clothes for my two daughters who will leave for college soon,” said Emmanuel, who is an assistant manager in an oil and gas company in Kota Kemuning.
He was also wearing a genuine Manchester United (MU) shirt which, he said was an “advance Christmas present” from his daughters.
“I am a huge MU fan, so I was very happy when my daughters bought the shirt as my Christmas gift,” he said.
“I think it is very healthy to shop together as a family as we relax after months of work,” he said.
Engineer Nor Hana Isa, 41, who was also shopping with her husband said the Christmas sale in the Harvey Norman store located inside IPC Shopping Centre attracted the couple.
“Initially, we came to the IPC Shopping Centre to buy sandals but we were not able to get a right size.
“We decided to do some window shopping here in Harvey Norman because the sales here look quite attractive.
Interior designer May Sean, 31, who accompanied her family to Harvey Norman, said she was looking to buy a blender for her mother.
“My mother often uses a blender. As Christmas is approaching, I think it would be great if I could get her a new one,” she said.
Both May and Nor Hana wanted the government to pay more attention to the tough economic situation with the approaching new year.
May hoped the government would draft more policies to boost the economy.
Nor Hana urged the government to work on lowering the prices of school items such as uniforms, books, and stationery.
“As a mother of two, school items form a major part of my family’s expenses, especially as one of my children is studying in a boarding school.
“I hope the government could make these items more affordable,” she said.
