THE Ipoh City Council (MBI) will rebrand several tourist destinations and develop new tourism products early next year.

Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said the projects would be implemented through a private finance initiative, according to a Bernama report.

“Among the products that will be rebranded are the Japanese Garden at Taman D.R. Seenivasagam and Gua Tambun, which has prehistoric artefacts from the Neolithic era.

“A number of new tourism products that are oriented to family and education will be developed in the Gunung Lang Recreational Park area.

“These will involve investments of millions of ringgit,” he said in a press conference after chairing MBI’s full board meeting in Ipoh.

Rumaizi also said MBI generated RM1.07mil in revenue this year through the Tasik Cermin eco-tourism area and Qin Xin Ling Leisure & Cultural Village.

“According to entry ticket records, Tasik Cermin receives between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors every month while the Qin Xin Ling Leisure & Cultural Village attracts between 20,000 and 30,000 visitors monthly,” he said.

In another development, Rumaizi said applications for next year’s Ramadan bazaar lots in areas under MBI’s jurisdiction will be open from Dec 26 to Jan 10.

“A total of 1,310 spots in 19 locations will be up for grabs. The list of locations can be obtained beginning Dec 26,” he said.
