Taman Perling roadside traders to be relocated

Roadside food traders in Taman Perling will be relocated to a parking lot adjacent to the Perling wet market.

MBIP plans to move them to parking lot near wet market by year-end

ROADSIDE food traders in Taman Perling, Johor Baru, have until the end of the year to relocate to a parking lot adjacent to the Perling wet market.

Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) Perling zone councillor Datuk Abd Rashid Kasiman said should they fail to do so, the council would not renew their business licence.

“Our target is to clear out the roadside hawkers at Taman Perling by January,” he said after chairing the council’s full board meeting at Menara MBIP in Medini Sentral.

Abd Rashid, who is also MBIP chief whip, chaired the meeting as mayor Datuk Haffiz Ahmad was away on a working visit to Seoul, South Korea.

Abd Rashid said the new trading space designated for the hawkers had been upgraded.

“We have been receiving complaints that the roadside stalls, especially those near Perling Mall, are causing inconvenience.”

Abd Rashid said the public complained about lorry drivers stopping along the highway to buy food, customers double-parking and hawkers throwing cooking oil into nearby drains.

He added that the council had informed the traders that they would be relocated to the parking lot when the upgrading project was completed.

“My advice to them is to follow MBIP’s directives or they will not be allowed to run their food stalls. Their trading lots will then be given to others who are on the waiting list,” he said.

On a related matter, Abd Rashid said the Jalan Pekaka hawker centre would be demolished to make way for a new building.

“Traders there will be relocated to a temporary structure which once housed the Perling wet market traders while the hawker centre is being upgraded.

“They have to vacate the place by the end of December.

“The new hawker centre, estimated to cost RM5mil, is expected to be completed within two years.”

On complaints from Perling market traders about roof leakages when it rains, he said MBIP had directed contractors to look into the matter.
