University celebrates 1,455 in class of 2023

XIAMEN University Malaysia (XMUM) has celebrated its fifth convocation organised for the graduating class of 2023.

The convocation comprised four ceremonies over two days.

Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong and People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing were guests of honour at the first ceremony and gave inspiring speeches to the graduands.

Xiamen Univesity president Prof Zhang Zongyi came all the way from China to award the degrees.

Xiamen University Malaysia president Prof Wang Ruifang also took part in the celebration.

The guests of honour for the other three ceremonies were Xiamen University guest professor Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting for the second ceremony, Higher Education director-general Prof Dr Azlinda Azman for the third, and Deloitte Malaysia chief executive officer Yee Wing Peng for the fourth.

XMUM’s class of 2023 had 1,455 graduands from 17 bachelor’s degree programmes and four master’s programmes, including 802 Malaysian students and 653 international students.

Some 2,500 people attended the convocation ceremony including graduands, their family members and friends, university staff and distinguished guests.

XMUM graduates are favoured not only by Chinese companies and their overseas branches, but also by international companies seeking to expand into Asia.

Many recent XMUM graduates have joined industry-leading companies such as Huawei, Tencent, Baidu, Intel, Top Glove, KPMG, EY, Bank of China, China Construction Bank, UOB Bank, Public Bank and AIA.

The university can serve as a steppingstone for those seeking to pursue further studies in other countries after completing undergraduate programmes at XMUM.

Many XMUM graduates have received offers for postgraduate study from top universities in the United Kingdom, the US, Australia, China and Japan.
