ABOUT 100 individuals tested their cognitive prowess in the Mind Competitions 2023 held at the Penang branch campus of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT).

The event aimed at promoting mental acuity among Malaysians drew a wide range of participants from school students to senior citizens.

Competitors engaged in three primary categories — memory, mind mapping and mental calculations.

Each category came with its own set of challenges, for example, the memory category called for contestants to recall random words, numbers, dates and historical events.

A student of Jit Sin Indepen-dent High School, who wanted to be known only as Dennis, said the contest provided a valuable learning experience.

“I am confident I can improve and go further next year.”

Another participant was teacher Ho Chai Ming who embraced all the memory tasks as she was teaching memorisation techniques to her students.

Her participation was fuelled by the desire to push boundaries.
