Kepong Baru residents seeking drain upgrade, end to pest problem

The back lane drains along several Kepong Baru roads are in need of an upgrade.

KEPONG Baru residents are irked by the poor condition of their back lane drains.

They said parts of the drainage along Jalan Belabas and Jalan Beberek had collapsed.

The drains were frequently clogged and the food waste left there attracted pests.

Resident Alan Chan said the drains had not been upgraded for five decades.

“They are old and in bad shape and attracts pests like lizards and mice.

“We close our back door around 4pm every day to prevent the pests from coming into our house,” he said.

Kepong activist Yee Poh Ping said he had raised the matter with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

“DBKL’s Road Maintenance Unit deputy director Mohd Nor Asham Suradi came for a site visit and residents relayed their concerns to him on the need to repair the drains.

“The drain design is also outdated,” said Yee, adding he had also raised the pest issue with DBKL Health Department.
