ALLIANCE for a Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye was conferred an Honorary Fellowship of the Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEM) at its 17th annual general meeting.

The fellowship was granted in recognition of Lee’s remarkable achievements and contributions in the field of occupational safety and health.

The induction ceremony was conducted by AOEM president Dr Abu Hasan Samad, according to a press statement.

In his acceptance speech, Lee spoke of his efforts to work with occupational health doctors to serve the needs of various industries, and their role in assessing, diagnosing, treating, preventing and managing occupational diseases and injuries.

He said these doctors were educators who could impart knowledge and skills in occupational safety and health to workers, employers and professionals.

“They are also good advocates for occupational safety and health, and influence positive changes in the workplace and society,” he said.

Lee also said all occupational health doctors must continue to uphold professionalism and ethics in the practice of occupational medicine.

“Occupational health doctors should actively engage with other stakeholders in occupational safety and health through collaboration, consultation, communication and coordination.

“They can work more closely with company management and human resource teams to understand workplace conditions, which will foster better relationship between occupational health doctors and the industry,” he added.
