SARAWAKIAN author Malcolm Mejin engaged the children of the Salvation Army Boys’ Home in a storytelling session during his visit.

Mejin spent quality time with the children at the home in Kuching, sharing stories and answering their questions.

Little did the children know that the author of the Diary of a Rich Kid series had a sweet surprise for them.

Mejin said, “I wanted to make the experience even more special for these young readers.

“So after the storytelling session, I told them they would each receive the four books in the series. I signed all the books myself.

“I believe in giving back to the community who has supported me throughout my journey as an author.”

He added that the book handout initiative was supported by Food Journal Group (Kuching), making it possible for the children to experience the joy of reading.

At the end of the visit, Mejin promised to return for more activities in the future, including board games, one of his favourite pastimes.

“I want to continue doing more community and charity work, especially when it brings such joy to children,” he said.

Mejin’s latest book called Lost in Space was released by Penguin Random House in June.

It follows three earlier self-published titles: Diary of Rich Kid, Diary of a Rich Kid: Road Trip and Secret of the Sea.

His next book, which will be set in the mountains of Sarawak, is scheduled to be published towards the end of this year.
