JOHOR has allocated RM6.5mil to build 50 housing units and help the poor and hardcore poor in the state to own a home.
State housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the initiative under the Rumah Kasih Johor (RKJ) programme was introduced by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to ensure no one would be left behind in house ownership.
“Recipients of the RKJ houses do not have to pay a single sen to own these houses.
“The state government hopes the housing assistance worth RM100,000 per person to the poor and hardcore poor under the eKasih system can help them live in more comfortable conditions and improve their standard of living.
“Through this initiative, there will be five RKJ recipients for each district in Johor, and this initiative will be expanded in the future,” he added.
Mohd Jafni, who is also Bukit Permai assemblyman, said the government’s next target was to provide 100 RKJ housing units each year.
He added that site investigation work for all 50 approved RKJ units had been done while construction was expected to start with site levelling work in September.
The RKJ project is managed by Johor State Housing Development Corporation, district office and Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd.
On the recently concluded Johor Property Expo 2023 (JPEX), Mohd Jafni said the four-day event at Angsana Johor Baru Mall was a success with recorded sales of RM823.5mil.
“The amount includes Johor Affordable Housing (RMMJ) units worth RM160.6mil, bumiputera and international lots (RM536.6mil), bank financing (RM126.2mil) and food dealer sales (RM30,000).
“The number of visitors also exceeded the target of 67,000 visitors that we initially set.
“Those who attended the expo not only had the opportunity to buy different types of housing available, but more importantly, they also received information about upcoming residential projects here,” he added.
