Much ado as tourism, creatives fest gets on the road

FRASER Valley in Kuala Kubu Baru was a hub of tourism and communal activities over the weekend during a “Kembara Riuh” programme.

The three-day event boosting local tourism and the creative industry attracted about 20,000 people to the site in the hills of northeast Selangor.

“The ‘Kembara Riuh’ programme under MyCreative Ventures is aimed at promoting local fashion, food and businesses while Malaysian artistes entertain the crowd with their performances,” said Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

“Held on a 40.5ha site in Fraser Valley, with scenic lakes and homestays, this venue is ideal for families who enjoy spending time outdoors, taking in the view of lush greenery and nearby hills.

“We expect to draw a crowd of 10,000 in Juru City, Seberang Jaya in Penang, for the event on Aug 4 and 5,” he added.

Also present were Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Kuala Kubu Baru Lee Kee Hiong from DAP, and Hulu Selangor Pakatan chairman Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan.

Fahmi said the event was effective in promoting local tourism and the creative industry.

“The ministry wants to help the creative industry cater to the domestic sector, with the hope of reaching a target of RM31.9bil in gross domestic product by 2025,” he elaborated.

Visitors browsed through more than 100 booths at the event and enjoyed performances by popular artistes such as Datuk M. Nasir, Hujan, Banyak Bunyik Republik, Airliftz, Dolla, Balan Kash and SOG, aside from cultural groups showcasing the gamelan and drum circle.

Some 25 booths sold food items at RM5 and below.

Buggy services were provided to make it easier for visitors to get around the expansive venue.
