RM20mil for resettlement scheme in Tanjung Manis

Len Talif says new housing in Tanjung Manis will be open to all who are eligible.

SOME RM20mil will be spent to develop 200 housing units under the Tanjung Manis Resettlement Scheme in Sarawak.

These houses are not only for staff of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (Pusaka) but also other eligible residents in Tanjung Manis, said state Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh.

They include those working in other industries in Tanjung Manis, he said on the sidelines of a Pusaka 50th anniversary celebration in the central region.

“Most people working in Tanjung Manis come from outside the area.

“Some of them have grandchildren and consider Tanjung Manis their hometown.

“That is why we developed this resettlement scheme for them,” he said.

However, he added that priority would be given to those in need of housing, whether they were Pusaka staff or employees of government agencies.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had agreed to allocate RM20mil for the project, which will include the provision of infrastructure facilities and basic amenities such as water and electricity, said Len Talif.

He said the project would be located close to other residential areas and work would hopefully start soon.
