Several George Town roads closed for Merdeka month launch activities


SEVERAL roads in George Town will be closed temporarily for the launching of the Penang-level Merdeka month and the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang.

Penang Island City Council (MBPP) said among the roads affected are Jalan Padang Kota Lama, Lebuh Duke and Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah.

"On Wednesday and Thursday (July 19 and 20), Jalan Padang Kota Lama will be closed from 12.01am to 11.59pm.

"Lebuh Duke will also be cordoned off from 12.01am to 11.59pm," it said in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement said Jalan Padang Kota Lama, Lebuh Duke and Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah will be closed on Friday (July 21) from 12.01am to noon.

MBPP said the public are advised to take note of the locations involved and plan their journey accordingly on alternative routes.
