Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee is hoping to offer skills training to his constituents in Sibu, Sarawak, who had obtained poor results or were absent for the 2022 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.

The Sarawak Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister I said he was looking into coming up with special courses similar to the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programme for students in his constituency.

On the 2022 SPM results, he said, “Many issues have arisen where there were students who did not sit for the exam and also those who got unsatisfactory results.”

Dr Annuar, who is Nangka assemblyman, said the number of candidates who did poorly far exceeded those who acquired excellent results, but little help was being offered to the former.

As such, he held a discussion with Sibu Municipal Council councillor Raden Khairulzaman Raden Bustari on carrying out a programme focused on those with poor results.

“Through this programme, we hope to bring together various TVET-based institutions for SPM holders who are interested in continuing their studies in their respective fields,” he said.

Towards that end, Dr Annuar said the Sibu District Education Office would provide them with a list of students who did not get the minimum qualification to enter Form 6 or continue their studies to the diploma and matriculation level.
