FOLLOWING numerous complaints, a 1km stretch of damaged road in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, has been resurfaced.
Kajang assemblyman Hee Loy Sian said the stretch at Persiaran Mahkota Cheras was heavily used by a large number of lorries to access a nearby quarry.
He said residents complained about the poor condition of the road and noise pollution caused by the lorries.
“Currently, there is only one route to the quarry, so the lorries have to use the road near the residential area.
“The often overloaded lorries damage the road,” he said.
The work was carried out under the Selangor government’s Mega Turap project, which allocates funds for road repairs.
Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) received RM2.5mil and the cost of fixing the road on Persiaran Mahkota Cheras 1 was RM500,000.
Hee added that the maximum weight allowed on this road was about 20 tonnes, but the lorries that pass through exceeded this limit.
“The frequency of the lorries is also a concern as they pass by every few minutes.
“The fact that the road is close to their homes is also worrying nearby residents and other motorists,” he said.
Hee added that he would contact the Road Transport Department (JPJ) regarding this matter.
“We will urge JPJ to enforce regulations and ensure these lorries comply with weight limits,” he said.
He also confirmed that more roads in Kajang will be repaired in the near future using the allocation provided by the state government.
Muhammad Ikram, a hawker and resident living near Persiaran Mahkota Cheras 1, said the road was constantly damaged because of the lorries despite frequent resurfacing efforts.
“Although the potholes on the roads were fixed, the lorries continue to damage the road.
“I hope this time it will last longer since the entire stretch was resurfaced,” he said.
