Another RM1mil allocated to aid p-hailing riders in Selangor

AN additional RM1mil will be allocated to the Inisiatif Roda Darul Ehsan (RIDE) as financial aid for more than 2,000 p-hailing delivery riders.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datu Seri Amirudin Shari said the additional aid would be added on top of the RM2mil that was initially allocated for RIDE.

“More than 5,000 p-hailing riders had applied for the initiative.

“Initially, only 3,000 applicants will be benefitted from the initiative where each of them will get RM500 in cash and RM50 in their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) account.

“The additional RM1mil will be channelled to the remaining applicants earliest in July,” he said during the RIDE contribution handover ceremony held in conjunction with the Selangor Youth Festival (SYF) at Dataran Karnival, Shah Alam Stadium.

RIDE was introduced under the Selangor government's Inisiatif Pedulu Rakyat (IPR) in 2020.

Since then, the government had received 19,650 applications where close to 9,500 had benefitted from the programme.

The additional funds will be channelled to applicants who had applied but were left out of the initial contributions.

The state government would also work with EPF to open an account for the p-hailing riders who do not have an EPF account.

Amirudin added that he will highlight the plight of the p-hailing riders in Parliament and to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, especially the uneven tip and payment rates.

“I will also highlight several matters including EPF and the welfare of the p-hailing riders.

“They too have to support not only themselves but their families.

“This initiative is also a form of recognition and appreciation to the p-hailing riders in Selangor,” he said.
