THE Petaling Jaya City Council’s full board meeting continued more than a week after it was disrupted following a walkout by the majority of city councillors on May 30.
Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said all issues and misunderstandings that arose in the earlier meeting had been resolved.
He, however, declined to provide any information on the problems about the One-Stop Centre (OSC) meeting on the Lorong Sultan development project which had led to the walkout.
A total of 19 out of 24 councillors had disagreed with a statement by Mohamad Azhan that the city councillors were not decision-makers at OSC meetings and were only there to give their input on social and political aspects.
Councillor Terence Tan said a pre-council session was held between 9.30am and 10.30am yesterday morning with the mayor, before the full board meeting.
“During the session, disagreements and disappointments were addressed, along with discussions on how to enhance future improvements.
“To foster better communication, we proposed that the mayor organise more informal gatherings, where issues can be discussed,” he said.
Tan added that the OSC matter would be handled by the state Appeal Board.
Twenty-two of the 24 MBPJ councillors attended the full board meeting.
Among the assemblymen present were Syamsul Firdaus Mohd Supri (Taman Medan), Halimey Abu Bakar (Seri Setia) and Rajiv Risyakaran (Bukit Gasing).
During the meeting, councillor Leong Chee Cheng emphasised the importance of addressing issues at the subcommittee level to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the matter before it was discussed in the full board meeting at MBPJ’s headquarters in Jalan Yong Shook Lin.
The minutes of the May 30 meeting were also reviewed during the full board meeting.
