THE Jinjang Utara morning market should be redeveloped into a modern multi-storey facility, an elected representative says.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said he had made a formal request to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for the market to be reconstructed, citing its outdated facilities.

“This market has been in existence for a considerable period.

“It is a popular place among Jinjang residents and those from surrounding areas to shop for their daily needs.

“We want a new multi-storey market built here with parking facilities, similar to the Pudu Integrated Commercial Complex,” he said.

He had invited DBKL Socio-Economic Development executive director Datuk Azmi Abdul Hamid to visit the morning market on Jalan Jinjang Aman 1 and inspect its conditions.

Azmi agreed that the 40-year-old market was in need of redevelopment.

“The market is old and certain elements here are not in good condition.

“The process of building and redeveloping the market involves multiple stages.

“It is currently impossible to provide a specific date for works to start.

“Revamping this facility will improve the area’s image and benefit residents and traders,” he said.

The Jinjang Utara morning market currently has over 170 licensed traders.

Lim said he would address the problem of unlicensed hawkers in the area.

One of the suggestions is to establish a hawker association specifically for the market, especially in light of the planned redevelopment.

“Jinjang Utara market has never had a hawker association.

“I will work together with the hawkers here so that the licensing and other issues affecting this place can be resolved,” Lim said.
